As an "older" model builder, one of the things I'm beginning to experience is a 2nd chance to take a look at the cars that were around in my day, the wonderful 50's and 60's, that I really didn't appreciate because I was too young at the time, and life was about friends, building our hot rods and customs, racing, cruising (I grew up in SoCal), chasing girls, riding our motorcycles, and hanging out.
Now that I've gotten "More Mature" - LOL, I'm finding a new enjoyment and appreciation for the design and engineering, with all the exterior chrome trim and interior chrome, and the beautiful emblems and sculpted trim pieces that are becoming works of art to me. Some, sort of "Art Deco style in the late 40's and early 50's, and I love that.
I find myself lately building more things closer to stock bodied with all the stock trim and emblems, but enhancing all that with color, and increased detailing to bring out the beauty of the original design of the exterior, and the sometimes lavish interiors, yet updating the entire package with current styling ideas to keep the build contemporary.
So, at least for a while, I think my building will tend more in that direction, with less de-chroming like I did in the past, and things will tend to be a lot more subtle to enhance whats already there that I have come to appreciate so much more, and glad that I have.
Harley Earl and so many other great designers had so much genius for their day, and left us a legacy to really enjoy and gain inspiration from, and I for one am going to spend some time using their design cues to really expand and enjoy this hobby I love so much.
I'm glad to have this second chance .
Dave
