Building my first model, a 1971 Hemi 'Cuda.

Hi everyone, I may be posting a bit prematurely, but I've already got a question, so I might as well dive in.  First off, I'd like to say thank you for the welcome into the forum.  So, I understand that I need to sand off and fill in any defects on the model, but I'm stuck on a couple things.  First, how do I know for sure what's meant to be a detail and what's not?  I've read all kinds of advice on how to remove defects, but I'm not sure how to recognize all of them.  Second; the undercarriage of the model is rough, not smooth like the rest of the model, and that's where the Revell logo is.  How do I remove that, without screwing up the texture on the bottom of the model?  I appreciate any help, and I will eventually put pictures up here and inform people of my progress.  Thanks.
